I'm afraid it's that logic that's got us where we are. Russias economy is growing at a faster rate than Europe's. It has beaten Ukraine on the battlefield. That's the reality. The media has consistently lied about the origins of this war and its progression.

I think Trump, with Musk’s good memmory is just out to make the situation more difficult for Europe. At least Musk has economic interests in keeping things like raw materials for batteries in short supply in Europe. Thats why they don’t want Ukraine or Greenland to be in EUs economic zone.

Trump has also shown intrests in making a deal about natural resources. And maybe this is a way to pressure Ukraine to accept such a deal in exchange for not becoming cut off from all US support.

Here's an idea for something Democratic leaders could do to resist Trump beyond shaking their fists in the air and bloviating in the streets. The DNC could sponsor a "Save Ukraine" campaign and encourage party members to donate $$ to replace any US aid Trump is threatening to withhold. Resist!

Trump sees the world as transactional & a triumvirate. When China takes Taiwan & Russia takes Ukraine, he will gobble up Greenland/Panama Canal/Gaza/Canada. It's insane, but Trump feels untouchable at this point. Hegseth or Rubio's comments are meaningless because the deal has already been struck.

Ukraine has a say in this, obviously. The EU will probably move to establish a collective military, apart from NATO. NATO will eventually lose relevance in the face of the EU military alliance. The US's role will be diminished and likely ignored by the EU. The EU needs to step into the conflict.

At best, the US, because of Trump, is unreliable for Ukraine. Zelensky is correct: Europe should form its own armed forces and not depend on U.S. aid for that defense. I am an American that would donate to such a force if it were to help protect Ukraine. I bet there are others.

A lot of Americans seem to think the US is spending too much on aiding Ukraine. But most of that expenditure goes into the pockets of Americans and as a proportion of US wealth it is fairly small.
